Are you a student? Consider an internship or job shadow at Whole Pet!
We love to share our knowledge! We have hosted numerous students over the years, ranging from early high school to Vet Tech students to seniors enrolled at Veterinary School. Come for a single day or stay the whole summer. We can often be very flexible with schedules. However, we can only accommodate one student at time. Summer internships are very popular, and we receive applications as early as January and February each year. As these can sometimes be competitive positions, selection of qualified individuals is made in Mid April and the schedule developed after that. Students should note that our internships are unpaid positions and that students are not covered by our worker’s compensation policy. Students participate at their own risk.
Interview and Intern FAQs
What should I wear?
Punctuality
Interns are expected to arrive on time. If you anticipate being late, please communicate your expected arrival time with the CCS or office manager. Repeated tardiness will be cause for dismissal.
What about lunch?
Phone Policy
What will I learn and what will I be allowed to do?
Like every internship, you will get out of it what you put into it. We do not structure-specific tasks for interns. We can rarely predict the types of cases we may see on any given day. We encourage interns to ask lots of questions, but we request these be saved for times when the staff is not actively engaged in communicating with clients or working intensively with patients. Observation of regular appointments, treatments, and procedures (surgeries, dentistry) can give any engaged student a good overview of veterinary medicine in general practice. Depending on skill level and internship type, some students may be allowed to assist the staff during procedures. Due to OSHA regulations, however, interns are not allowed to take radiographs.
We understand that not everyone is the same. If you require accommodations for learning, please speak with our management staff about your needs ahead of your visit so that we can ensure that everyone’s needs are met and we can be prepared.
