Pet Palliative Care

The Whole Pet definition of palliative care: A specialized form of medical management focused on preserving an animal’s quality of life for as long as reasonably attainable. This is not a cessation of medical care, but a shift in treatment goals to alleviate suffering for animals and their families.
In an effort to ensure proper medical care, Whole Pet Veterinary Center requires certain principles of care be strictly followed for palliative care patients. These principles are designed to prevent suffering and increase client/caregiver communication throughout the end-of-life experience. Some animal patients will require more end-of-life/palliative care than others. This will be determined by your pet’s condition, caregiver needs, and expected prognosis. Education regarding your pet’s condition will be provided at the time of palliative care consultations.
